Tricentis: Enabling Enterprises to Achieve Unprecedented Software Testing Automation Rates

Customer pressure and escalating costs of software failure has pushed the need for testing to new dimensions. Companies are adopting DevOps methodologies and continuous testing to speed up the release of software applications. "The biggest challenge organizations face is that they can't do continuous testing because more than 80 Percent of the functional testing is still done manually; which is both expensive and time consuming," begins Sandeep Johri, CEO. Furthermore, enterprise application environments are increasing in complexity due to multiple front ends, multiple back end systems, connected systems and APIs.

With a focus to address these challenges, Tricentis provides enterprise software testing solutions for companies to accelerate business innovation. "Our model-based automation solution allows organizations to automate testing up to 95 percent and improve their software testing efficiency by 10X, which leads to a faster time to market," he adds. Tricentis' solutions empower organizations to systematically align software testing with business needs, so they can harness technology change while optimizing cost and efficiency.

Tricentis' unique approach to software testing enables enterprises to achieve unprecedented automation rates while minimizing business-related risks. The company's flagship product Tosca Testsuite encompasses market-leading model based test automation, test design and planning, test data provisioning, and service virtualization for end-to-end testing of modern applications across web, mobile, .Net, Java, and several
legacy technologies."This delivers an order of magnitude improvement in efficiency and effectiveness," claims Johri. The suite helps optimize risk coverage by minimizing the number of test cases to achieve the highest possible risk contribution for each test case by offering a fully integrated set of capabilities for the design, generation and provisioning of test data using its unique model-based test automation approach. The methodology around the test case design typically reduces test cases by 50-60 percent. "We basically factor in the severity of the function, and frequency of failure to assess the risk of failure of that function," he adds.

The company's model-based approach allows organizations to get the highest level of automation. "At Tricentis, we scan the UI of the application or read the APIs and automatically modularize them into functional components," states Johri. The test cases are defined using the modular components which benefits organizations by re-scan and quickly updating the model and the flexibility to reuse the test cases across various technologies. For instance, a leading insurance company had to maintain 16,000 automation scripts which gave them 46 percent risk coverage. "They redesigned the test cases using Tosca and reduced the test cases to 3,500 test cases which cover 93 percent of the risk," boasts Johri. Out of those 3, 500 automated tests the company runs 1,000 test cases automatically on a daily basis. "Since it is automated they can run it literally overnight after each build," he adds.Further, Tricentis also provides an extensive training program for the Quality Analyst and Testing team. The company offers this through computer based training and in person training programs. "We have a free training program on Udemy ( get-in-touch-with-tricentis- tosca-testsuite/ possible) to introduce people to Tosca and become a certified user," asserts Johri. The computer based training gives users an advanced level of expertise. "We have over 4,000 certified users on Tosca and our goal is to get 10,000 in the next 3 years," he adds. The company's team of experts accelerates
business innovation. We provide assistance in test case methodology, creating customized technical controls, and test data analysis.

Tricentis takes pride in its model based test automation, and risk based test case design. Most of the testing is done by the company's global services partners. The company has established strong partnerships with several Indian companies like Infosys, Wipro, Cognizant, Tech Mahindra, and TCS. "The nature of the partnership is that we become their testing tool of choice for automated software testing," says Johri. "About 50 percent of our business comes from existing customers and the renewalrate on our licenses is 95 percent."

Since inception, the company has been helping organization achieve maximum amount of efficiency by automating their software testing process. For example, Becton, Dickinson and Company, a leading supplier of medical devices and an innovator in injection and infusion-based drug delivery was planning to establish a test team, tool and automated test portfolio for their software application. The company was looking for a test management and automation tool in order to meet the requirements. The tool would have to be user intuitive, in order to enable staff quickly. Taking hold of the situation, Tricentis helped providing three solutions: First it demonstrated the actual test coverage to the auditor. Secondly, it provided the means to maintain control over the number of test cases in an ever growing project. And lastly Tricentis provided combinations of combinatorial algorithms like Linear Expansion and Orthogonal and pairwise combinations that could be applied to optimize the BD Medical test case portfolio. Through this, BD Medical was able to increase their risk coverage as well as speed up time to market, crucial for any hot fixes that crop up in their medical software.

Johri believes that market is shifting to fully automated and continuous testing and is certain that Tricentis has a huge opportunity. "Our goal is to be on the market leader for testing tools globally," he concludes.
